Was Alek just agreeing with her so she wouldn't look as stupid? That would be worse. Sure, she wasn't the smartest person, but there where some things she was good at, but intelligence was definitely one of her weaknesses. Especially anything math related. “maybe, but i'm probably wrong. Smarts aren't really my strong point.” maybe she'd have to test the theory, try both rushes, then see if there was a difference. If not, she was right, if there is, Alek was right.
Seeing Alek laugh out loud made Nikki smile, she wasn't so embarrassed about her little outburst earlier. She was over the guy so Alek laughing didn't bother her, she found it funny looking back, how stupid her friend was, keeping it to herself would've ended better for her. “she thought we could look back on it in a few years and laugh together, and assumed because we where so close that I wouldn't mind sharing. She didn't want us to have secrets.” her friend had turned out to be one of those backstabbers you get in highschool. Nikki was glad to be rid of her, seeing her true colours was a good lesson. She sure knew how to pick her friends.
Indoor rock climbing sounded a lot better than a mountain, but still high. Maybe she could work up to it. It was a thrill seeking kind of list. One day. “i guess, but i'd still freeze up if I got high, especially if I looked down, I always look down like an idiot.” it was true, if someone tells you not to do something, it makes it all the more tempting. People always tell you to not look down, then of course, you do. They should not even mention it.
Alek made a good argument about her being a sheep. If she was one, she would just follow the crowd. It was probably better she stopped listening to people that didn't like her, their comments where starting to sink in. whatever was put on her list, she was going to actually do, it would be fun, and scary. But worth it at the end. “very good point. But it's not me who said it first. Thats just how certain people explain me.” no one can be liked by everyone, there was no point in hiding the fact she had enemies. Pretending to be perfect and loved by everyone you meet is fake, and Nikki was against anyone who acted that way.
Nikki couldn't stop thinking of how hard it must be on Alek taking care of his godson, not just financially, but mentally as-well. He was going through something no child should have to, and many don't. She'd never known anyone that had lost both parents, some had lost one, but they where older and able to cope with their loss, a kid doesn't have the strategies you learn as you get older. Nikki wondered if he lashed out or anything, it wouldn't surprise her. “see, stop being so hard on yourself, it doesn't get you anywhere” she didn't like seeing people beat themselves up a lot and she didn't always give the best advice, but she'd always try her best.
Dancing with someone that couldn't dance? This night could get quite interesting, the thought made her laugh quietly. “see, I can't do them dances. and as long as I don't get a blood nose, It will be fun. Maybe you can learn” she watched as Alek paid for his drinks, then come back to the table. Nikki stretched her neck, then stood up herself and paid for her own before facing alek and smiling. “do you drive?”

Even if being smart wasn’t her thing, she was probably right about the rushes. But to say that smarts wasn’t her thing, confused Alek. She may not be a genius or anything like that, but she had to be smart at something. Everyone had something they were more knowledgeable on than others. For him, it was the mafia and his love for world war history. “C’mon, you may not be a genius, but you have to be smart at something, everyone is. I enjoy history, I thrive in it.”
Scoffing, Alek shook his head. Sharing a guy, willingly, as if that could ever work out. No one wanted to know that the person they were dating was dating other people. It was just awkward and people felt betrayed by that. “Sounds like this friend was a real idiot. I mean, no matter how close people are, who would willingly want to share a boyfriend?” he continued to shake his head, unable to fathom where she would get the idea that it would be all right to do so.
He wondered why she always looked down. “Have you ever been on a plane before?” it was a random question but one that would be prompted with a reason for asking. “They’re much higher than rock climbing you know,” that was solely speaking on the fact that she might have been on a plane before. If she hadn’t, then his point was invalid.
He looked her up and down, wondering who these people were. She didn’t look like a sheep to him. However, he didn’t know her that well yet, but she didn’t appear to be a sheep to him. She had thoughts and opinions of her own. She was in no way a sheep. “Who are these people, they should know that’s rude. They should say nicer things about a friend.” Friends shouldn’t say something so bluntly rude about others. Even if they were describing who she was in all, it would be better to say something nicer.
“You’re right, it doesn’t get me anywhere. Why is positive thinking so hard?” he smiled sheepishly to her, finishing off his drink.
As he approached the table again, having paid for his drinks, he picked up his coat, which he had taken off at one point and hung it over his arm. “Maybe you could teach me,” he couldn’t help the faint blush that came to his cheeks. It wasn’t that he was shy, or interested in her or anything of the sort, it was embarrassing. To have someone so much younger trying to teach him how to dance, it would be embarrassing.

Nikki didn't know a thing about history, she'd taken a class in school, and just managed a good grade. She always got confused and didn't really take anything in, every time she left the class, she'd already forgotten what the teacher had said, she'd often spend ages going through her notes and books. She was more into arts than anything brainy. Although, she was a good speller, of course there where words she didn't know, but generally got high scores on her spelling tests. “I'm alright at spelling, but I'm more into arts like drawing, dancing, that kind of stuff. I generally just managed decent grades. I'm not a natural smarty, it took a lot of studying.”
She didn't know how she'd stayed friends with the backstabber for so long, they used to tell each other everything, and every weekend had a night out, it was nice having someone with her, even though her ex-friend frequently vanished after dancing with some random guy, maybe that was a sign Nikki should have picked up on. Her friend had always been..... friendly with guys, no matter how long she'd known them for. “I don't think she was ever a real friend, she was very self centred and had to get everything she wanted, no matter what it was. She was very friendly with all guys, she saw a guy in a relationship as a challenge.” relationships where already complicated enough without having your best friend trying to sleep with your partner, Nikki would steer clear of romance for a while, it had already been some time since she'd had a boyfriend, and right now, she wasn't interested in getting involved with anyone. She was content with how her life was right now, she was free to just have a good time.
Planes where a lot higher, but they did feel safer than just having a rope. Nikki was kind of used to planes, her family enjoyed regular vacations, usually a last minute decision. But very enjoyable. “yea, I've been on planes quite a lot. Me and my parents go on vacations quite regularly. But even though its higher, planes feel safer. A lot safer.”
“Those people are ones that I don't get along with at all. We kind of clash. It's complicated.” Nikki had been friends with some of the people who called her a sheep, one of those people was the friend she'd stabbed with a fork, she understood why that particular person would want to spread rumours about her, but the others, she hadn't done anything to them. Maybe they where the sheep, following the rumour mill, it didn't really matter, Nikki didn't need people like that as friends, or even in her life, what they said where false, who cared about rumours.
Nikki couldn't help but smile at Alek, positive thinking was hard, for some reason, it didn't seem to come naturally, negative thoughts seemed natural though. It was strange. “maybe your just not used to thinking positive?”
shifting her weight onto one foot, Nikki grinned, her feet ached from wearing heels all night, it was worth it, she loved wearing heels and had a nice collection to choose from. Teaching Alek to dance would be interesting, she hadn't really taught anyone, she'd danced with people who couldn't dance. But that was different than actually teaching, heck, it would be fun anyway. “I can try, anyway, I doubt your that bad. I've probably danced with people who are worse than you.” Nikki shifted again so her weight was on both feet again, it was less painful. “lead the way” she didn't know where to go, so waiting for Alek to start was easier, of course.

He nodded his head as she answered him. So she was the artsy type. Maybe that was too derogatory for her, she didn’t appear to be into all of the arts, just drawing and dancing. If she were also a drama addict, then maybe he would be able to call her the artsy type. “Good at spelling, does that mean you text in proper spelling or do you cheat and use short forms like ‘u’ and ‘r’?” Alek didn’t text people. He had a cell phone but no need to text people. Whenever he was needed he would receive a phone call which was on a special line that couldn’t be tapped.
“Doesn’t sound like the right kind of person to hang around with. But there must have been something good about her, or else there would be no basis of a friendship,” She didn’t sound like the best of friends or the most decent of people. However, they were friends at some point so there had to be something good about this individual. If there wasn’t, how could their friendship have bloomed at all?
“You enjoy travelling by plane? Where have you been?” he hadn’t been on planes much since coming to the states. He had been on planes when he was younger, for vacations with his parents, missions that they had to take him on, that type of thing. But the last time he had been on a plane was when he was coming straight from Moscow to New York. He had been quite young then and hadn’t been on a plane since. He had forgotten what it was like to travel by plane.
“So they’re not really friends,” it must be complicated if they clashed. It sounded as if she didn’t really have any friends that she could count on. She was either hanging out with bad people or she didn’t know what it meant to have a real friendship. The second would explain why she seemed to have so many falling outs with people who claimed to be her friends.
“Maybe,” he smiled to her as she said that he might not be used to positive thinking. His life had been anything but positive. His parents were hit men, famous hit men, but died while he was young. He had been raised in a foreign country with a new language he had to learn, he had been raised by a distant uncle who was hardly around. He missed far too much school, and he was in with the mafia. It wasn’t that he regretted the way his life had ended up, but it wasn’t very pleasant when you stepped back and looked at it.
“We’ll find out I guess then,” he stood up and started toward the door of the bar. He opened it for her, letting her out first before leading the way to his car. In New York, having a car was essential. There was no way he could take the subway wherever he needed to go. Although it would be convenient to take the subway, he much preferred driving.
Stepping out to the deep blue camri, He opened the door for Nikki before closing it behind her. His car was rather clean and didn’t give away any clues to the fact that he worked in the mafia. In fact, the only clue that would lead her to believe that he was deceiving her was in the trunk and under a coded compartment.
Alek climbed into the driver’s seat, pushing his key into the ignition and pulling away from the curb. He started off toward a local dance club in another section of town. It was one of the only dance clubs that he knew of. He would probably have to give Nikki a ride home since they would probably be out late dancing and it wasn’t safe for her to take the subway back by herself.
They weren’t far away from the dance club and arrived pretty soon after leaving the bar that they had frequented previously. He parked the car in a park lot before walking over to her side and opening the door for her. He was very old fashioned. “I hope you like it, it’s one of the few places I know with good dancing,”

Nikki smiled at Alek's comment, text speak was something that frustrated her, she couldn't understand why people couldn't just write the word, half the time it was like text messages where encrypted. “i really don't like text speak. So yes, I use proper spelling and I wish others would too. Unless they plan on writing a manual.” Nikki often deleted texts without reading them if there was too much text speak, if they couldn't be bothered to type out the full words, she couldn't be bothered replying to them, or even attempting to read it.
Apart from the constant competition, her ex-friend had been alright to hang out with, and she knew about Nikki's family which was a bonus, someone she didn't have to lie about that too. It wasn't anything like a normal friendship, yet she had stuck it out anyway. “hmm, it was complicated. She liked to compete. Our friendship pretty much revolved around that.”
“I've been around, my Parents are really into family vacations. Almost obsessed. But its been fun.” She had enjoyed her trips, probably a lot more if her parents had planned them better. It was a good learning curve, although now, she was happy to spend her time in one place, no matter how small it was. Maybe even eventually completely leave this life behind, start over in a new town, new area. Not likely, but still a nice thought
“No, they're more like family friends. I kind of have a different view on things. I think sometimes people go too far.” She would certainly not talk to any of her old 'friends' anymore, they weren't a part of her life plan, the aim was to improve her life, not make it worse.
“maybe you should practise more positive thinking, challenge your Negative thoughts.” Nikki had a lot of practice in positive thinking, sure, like all normal people, she had her negative times, but she always tried to see the silver lining, thinking Negative all the time would make her depressed. Not a fun place to be.
Nikki Followed Alek Smiling as he held the door open, that certainly didn't happen often. “we will.” At least he had a car, walking all over would have nearly killed her, at some point she'd learn to drive, but not any time soon, trains worked just fine. She never felt unsafe, there are some weird people around, but she was yet to run into a crazy.
She got into the car and grinned, now she just hoped Alek didn't turn out to be some weird serial killer, that would really ruin the night. Getting in the car with someone you just met, wasn't entirely the smartest choice, but a risk she was willing to take. Nikki silently watched out the window as Alek drove, it was a good time to rest her feet before she put them through hell on the dance-floor, she also used the time to properly fix her hair before finally relaxing in the seat.
As the car stopped, her phone vibrated, Nikki waited for Alek to get out of the car before clicking and putting the phone to her ear. “You woke me, I'm in bed, ill call you tomorrow. Bye.” She ended the call and looked as Alek opened the door. Her father must have got her earlier message, the timing couldn't have been worse, but there was no way she could tell me him the truth, he'd be there within the hour, and that wouldn't end well no matter how you looked at it. “thanks” Nikki got out of the car and stretched her arms. “I'm sure I'll love it. I'm not overly picky.” She laughed softly “lets go”
